Grey and
gold.
This is the tractor I grew up with. We had a Ferguson FE35 “Gold Belly” on our farm. Early FE35s left the factory with grey tinwork and the engine, gearbox and transmission painted gold, which is where the nickname comes from. From 1957 the livery changed to the red and grey of the MF35.
The model started as Heller’s 1/24 Ferguson TE-20 “Petit Gris” (kit 81401): the little grey Fergie that the FE35 replaced. I painted it to match ours. The bonnet and wings stay grey, everything mechanical underneath, from the engine block to the hydraulic linkage, is picked out in gold, and the exhaust and pipework are in bare metal.
It is finished and mounted on a black plinth under a clear display case, with a plaque that reads “Archerfield 1973 to 2001”.
